The new artwork by Thiago (th97) features a shamanic healer holding hallucinogenic mushrooms together with a jaguar, a snake, and a humming bird in the Amazonian jungle.

Thiago said: “The mural represents ‘the cure’ in the middle of the concrete jungle I wanted to represent Maria Sabina, a great healer. Here she is holding mushrooms as if they are expanding from night to day.”

Thiago added: “The feeling I wanted to transmit with this mural is the cure with elements of power like the hummingbird, jaguar and the serpent – all in harmony as if they are the cure with natural medicines. Also the representation of the mystery of nature and its elements of power.”

In Latin America, mushrooms play an important role in shamanic rituals. They are believed to be able to create gateways to higher consciousness that can reveal deeper truths, unity and insights and are also used for spiritual healing guided by shamans to address emotional and existential suffering.

In many indigenous traditions, especially in the Amazon, shamans are believed to transform into jaguars during rituals. The jaguar represents heightened perception, instinct, and spiritual vision. This idea of ‘becoming the jaguar’ symbolizes entering a state of expanded awareness or altered consciousness.
