Dictator, corrupt ex-president… and mayor of BA?

What do Videla, Menem and Macri all have in common? Not much it would seem but of course that doesn’t matter as far as political graffiti in Argentina is concerned! One is the recently jailed ex-general who was in charge of the military dictatorship (1976-1983) during which some 30,000 people were terrorized, kidnapped, tortured and murdered. Another is the ex-Peronist leader who pardoned Videla of a life sentence, sold off Argentina’s public services and is widely regarded as one of the country’s most corrupt presidents. The other is the mayor of Buenos Aires, conservative business tycoon, ex-president of Boca Juniors, and fierce political enemy of president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Ernestina Herrera de Noble

The anti-Macri design has been produced by Iconoclastitas who have also created an image of Ernestina Herrera de Noble, portraying the director of the Clarín media group as a military dictator in the guise of Videla. The group told Buenos Aires Street Art they were not responsible for spraying the stencil of Macri themselves, however the same image along with no shortage of pro-Kirchner propaganda graffiti has appeared all over the capital.
