Swedish street artist Stina Folkebrant has been visiting Argentina and completed a beautiful new mural in Buenos Aires this week that was organised by Buenos Aires Street Art.

Stina Folkebrant is a street artist from Stockholm, Sweden and has been visiting Argentina this month. Her new mural in Coghlan features three animals that are native to Argentina.

Stina paints using brushes, black acrylic paint and water on a white background and is inspired by Chinese ink painting.

Jaguars play an important role in eco-systems in Argentina and other countries where they live by controlling prey populations, influencing the food chain, and promoting regional biodiversity. Stina said: “The jaguars have been hunted down and have been on the point of extinction but they are coming back. There was a man who passed by the wall from northern Argentina and told me the jaguar population there is now growing which is great.”

The mural features three animals important in Mayan culture: a jaguar, condor and snake that can be found in different parts of Argentina and South America. “I always paint animals and landscapes and it’s like a form of meditation for me and when I paint and try to make the animal present,” she says. “I love big cats and there’s an old Mayan concept here with the jaguar living in this world, the condor is in contact with heaven and the snake with the underworld. The snake can transform from life to death so there are different types of transformations going on. These animals are all part of nature and are like spirits on the land.”
